Reading a DEUTZ Model Designation
DEUTZ model codes describe the engine build. In a code such as BF6M1013, "B" indicates turbocharging, "F" a four-stroke vehicle-type engine, "6" the number of cylinders, "M" liquid cooling, and "1013" the series. Air-cooled engines use "L" in the same position, as in F4L912. Newer engines use the TCD prefix, as in TCD 2013, for turbocharged engines with charge-air cooling. Knowing these letters helps us narrow the parts list before the serial number is checked.
Common DEUTZ Families
- 912, 913, and 914 air-cooled engines in older machinery and pumps
- 1011 and 2011 engines in compact equipment
- 1012, 1013, and 2012, 2013 engines in construction and industrial machines
- TCD 2012, 2013, and later TCD ranges in current equipment
