Marine and Generator Versions Are Not Interchangeable
The application letter in the model code tells you how the engine was built. An M-rated engine such as 12V 2000 M72 or 16V 2000 M84 is set up for propulsion, usually with a seawater pump, heat exchanger, and marine-specific turbocharging. A G-rated engine such as 12V 2000 G65 drives a generator at constant speed and is often radiator-cooled. Many maintenance items are shared across both, but cooling, exhaust, fuel-injection, and control parts frequently differ, so we confirm the full designation before quoting.
