A cylinder head order is where specification discipline matters most, because the component is expensive, the variants are close together, and the shipment is often needed against a hard downtime date. Three things are worth settling before the purchase order: exactly which head the engine takes, whether it is being supplied bare or assembled, and what documentation and testing the end user or class authority requires with it.

• Pressure-test or leak-test documentation required by the end user or class authority
• Head gasket set, bolts, and any one-time-use items — quoted separately, not assumed included
• Cylinder position, because heads are not always interchangeable across a bank
• Destination and required-by date, and the downtime the engine is actually working to

One-time-use items are the most common omission on a head order: bolts and gaskets that must not be reused are frequently assumed to be in the box. We quote them as separate lines so the workshop has a complete scope before the engine is opened.
